Developed by the IAHSA Survey & Standards Committee over many months, it has been designed as the resource of survey information for the long-term care professional. What is the survey TOOLBOX? The survey TOOLBOX is a durable plastic, portable file unit that holds all the essential state and federal survey & certification documents. The State Operations Manual (SOM) and Indiana State specific rules for comprehensive and residential care are included in 3 ring binders. Other survey document essentials are organized in hanging files and folders in the TOOLBOX. The TOOLBOX has a sturdy carrying handle, as well as an organizer compartment built into the lid. We would like to introduce a new service designed solely for those who have purchased the IAHSA Survey ToolBox. IAHSA is committed to helping its members have access to the most current regulatory documents, including state and federal regulations, food rules, OSHA regulations, CMS and ISDH clarifications and notifications, MDS and survey & certification question & answer documents, ISDH policy interpretations, state specific laws that impact facilities, and a host of other useful materials. In keeping with that commitment, we are pleased to announce the Survey ToolBox Subscription Service. Basic Service: Alerts to changes in the ToolBox are sent via e-mail with any relevant attachments or links to websites where you can download new regulations, forms, etc. The charge for this service is $35 per year. Enhanced Service: In addition to the alert service described above, all hard copies of the relevant information will be mailed to you. The charge for this service is $150 per year.

Principles of Medication Administration ($59) is promoted by the Institute for Safe Medication practices (ISMP) to document the JCAHO requirement of medication safety competency. It includes practical application of the latest CMS guidelines, easy-to-use inservice tools and reference materials, a “do not crush” list, pre-audit tools to prevent fines, and medication procedures for eye drops, eye ointments, and insulin. IAHSA continues to partner with Life Services Network of Illinois to make available Confidence Satisfaction Surveys at a reasonable cost. Simple Savvy Program Members are encountering increasing challenges with the changing workforce. Managers within each department are indicating that the people who are applying for positions, in many instances, lack knowledge about basic life skills and basic job skills. Our members believe that these people could be good employees if we had an effective means of teaching them these basic skills. As such, IAHSA introduces a new program called Simple Savvy: Life Skills for Our Home. The program covers four areas including work ethic, teamwork, employee mental and physical health and appearance. This would serve as an excellent basis for an employee inservice. The complete package costs $75 and includes a 10-minute videotape, 50 booklets, 50 pocket-sized cards and 2 posters.
